Life story

A Guardian for Her Children

Hannah Newell was born around 1656–1658, daughter of Thomas Newell, and married in 1669. She inherited twenty-eight pounds from her father's estate in 1689 and joined the church in 1691. In 1713 Hannah was appointed legal guardian of her younger children, Lydia, Sarah, and Ebenezer, while her son Joseph chose his stepfather, Thomas North, as his own guardian. Hannah died November 4, 1757, at around age ninety-nine.
