Life story

A King Philip's War Veteran

Thomas North was born in 1649, son of John North, and served under Captain Henchman during King Philip's War, stationed near Boston in 1675 and garrisoned at Hadley, Massachusetts, the following summer. He was made a freeman of Hadley in 1678 and received a land grant in Northington (now Avon), Connecticut, for his wartime service, becoming one of the town's original settlers. In 1692 Thomas inherited money from his father's estate and settled a dispute with his brother Joseph over the remaining personal property, and in 1691 he formally joined the church. Thomas died around 1712 in Northington; his estate was appraised at nearly 40 pounds.
