Life story

Clearing Ohio Forest

Alanson Hayes was born April 17, 1781, in Granby, Connecticut (or possibly Brattleboro, Vermont), and married in Guilford, Vermont, in 1801. A well-to-do farmer, Alanson moved to Allen County, Ohio, in 1848, where he and his son of the same name cleared some 300 acres of forest to establish their farm. Alanson died April 3, 1862.
