Life story

A Scituate Councilman

Ezekiel Hopkins, son of Thomas Hopkins, was made a freeman of Rhode Island in May 1712 and went on to serve Scituate as a town council member in 1731 and as a deputy to the colony's General Court in 1745. In his September 1761 will, Ezekiel left his wife Elizabeth his household goods and livestock, divided his farm tools among his sons Ezekiel, Charles, and Nicholas, and left small cash bequests to his daughters and granddaughters. He died in Scituate on July 29, 1762; his substantial farm estate, appraised at nearly 322 pounds, included six cows, a flock of sheep, farming tools, and a well-stocked household.
