Life story

Present at Burgoyne's Surrender

John Seamans was born around 1749 in Swansea, Massachusetts, and served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War, present at General John Burgoyne's surrender at Saratoga on October 17, 1777 — one of the war's turning points — and afterward continuing his service in the 6th Dutchess County Regiment defending the Hudson River. He later moved west, living in Starksboro, Vermont, and Waterford, New York, before settling in Eaton, New York, where he died in 1838.
