Life story

A Soldier Across Two Wars

John Seamans was born October 4, 1728, in Swansea, Massachusetts, and received land in Scituate, Rhode Island, from his father in 1750. He served in the colonial militia in the 1750s and '60s, rising to lieutenant by 1762, and later, in his late forties, served as a private in the Revolutionary War, stationed at Warwick in 1777. John moved to Killingly, Connecticut, buying land there in 1776, and finally to Clarendon, Vermont, around 1780, where he died on May 10, 1813, at the age of eighty-four.
