Life story
A Braintree Tailor's Bequest
John Lomas (or Loomis) was baptized January 29, 1562, in Thaxted, England, and worked as a tailor in Braintree, Essex, inheriting forty pounds from his father-in-law, John Lyngwood, in 1597. In his will, written in April 1619 shortly before his death, John left his son Joseph his tenement house, garden, and a stable near the Braintree Market Cross, along with household goods, and divided the remainder of his estate among his four daughters — though none of it was to be distributed until six months after the death of his wife, Agnes, who was to hold the property in the meantime. John died in Braintree in April 1619.
