Life story

From Windsor to Westfield

Samuel Loomis was born around 1628 in Braintree, Essex, England, son of the immigrant Joseph Loomis, and settled with his family in Windsor, Connecticut, where he became a freeman in 1654 and rose to the rank of lieutenant. In 1658 he and his siblings agreed to divide their late father's estate evenly among themselves. Samuel moved to Westfield, Massachusetts, in the 1670s, selling his former Windsor home in 1679. He died in Westfield on October 1, 1689; his estate, initially valued at over 220 pounds, was found the following year to include additional property held by his sons-in-law.
