Life story

A Swansea Town Officer

William Wood was born around 1670 near Rehoboth, Massachusetts, the son of Thomas Wood, and settled in nearby Swansea, where his father granted him fifty-two acres including a homestead in 1701. William served the town for decades as surveyor, fence-viewer, treasurer, and clerk, and, by the end of his life, as a doctor. He wrote his will in December 1734, naming his daughter Priscilla and her husband as executors, and died the following March; his estate was appraised at a substantial 857 pounds.
