Life story

A Killingly Landholder

John Brown was born around 1705 in Reading, Massachusetts, and by 1726 had settled in Killingly, Connecticut, where he worked as a husbandman and later a wheelwright. Over the following five decades he bought and sold dozens of parcels of land around Killingly, steadily building a substantial farm that he divided among his sons Benjamin and Stephen as they came of age in the 1770s. John died in Killingly before 1789.
