Life story

A Rhode Island Farmer

John Brown was born around 1766 and settled in Foster, Providence County, Rhode Island, where he worked as a yeoman and, with his brother Patrick, bought seventy acres of land in 1789. Over the following four decades John steadily traded parcels of land around Foster and briefly in Killingly, Connecticut, and in 1824 received additional land and cash from his father Isaiah's estate. John died February 27, 1833; his substantial family, including at least a dozen named heirs, divided his estate the following year.
