Life story

A Simsbury Deputy

Joshua Holcomb was born April 7, 1640, in Windsor, Connecticut, and inherited his father Thomas's property in 1657, becoming a freeman in 1669. He settled in Massaco (later Simsbury) by 1669, receiving land grants there including, in 1687, an original royal land grant, and represented Simsbury as a deputy to the Connecticut General Court in 1670, 1671, and 1690, also serving as selectman in 1687. Joshua died in Simsbury on December 1, 1690; his estate, appraised at over 474 pounds, was distributed among his children three years later, with his sons Thomas and Joshua receiving the largest shares.
