Life story

A Contested Inheritance

Abigail Bissell was born July 6, 1661, in Windsor, Connecticut, and married James Eno, later living in Simsbury and, in her final years, with her daughter Mary and son-in-law in that town. When James died in 1714, Abigail and her son presented his will for probate, but her sons-in-law contested it on the grounds that it left too little to the couple's daughters. Around 1715 her own nephew sued her for ten pounds from her late father's estate. Abigail died April 19, 1728, having given her final wishes orally to her sisters shortly before her death, leaving her possessions to her four daughters and her unmarried son Samuel.
