Life story

Founding Medfield

John Bullard was born around 1596–1602 in Barnham, Suffolk, England, and emigrated to Massachusetts around 1635 with his wife Magdalene, settling in Watertown, where he became a church member and took the freeman's oath in 1640. He helped found Dedham the following year, one of its original proprietors under a founding social contract signed with fellow settlers, and moved on again in 1650 to become one of the founding proprietors of Medfield, where he was assigned an eight-acre house lot. In 1675 he subscribed to help fund the newly established Harvard College with a pledge of corn. John died in Medfield on October 27, 1678, leaving his homestead to his son Joseph.
