Life story

Rebuilding After King Philip's War

Joseph Bullard was baptized April 30, 1643, in Dedham, Massachusetts, son of John Bullard, and settled in Medfield, where his home was burned down during King Philip's War around 1675 — he never rebuilt it, living instead on his father's homestead for the next two decades. Despite the loss, Joseph joined other burned-out Medfield residents in 1678 in subscribing corn to help support the newly founded Harvard College. In 1695 he purchased land where Medfield, Dover, and Walpole met, settling there and eventually passing the farm to his son Nathaniel.
