Life story

A Colchester and Bolton Farmer

Isaac Jones was baptized May 25, 1690, in Watertown, Massachusetts, and settled in Colchester, Connecticut, by 1714, where he farmed for twenty-five years and represented the town in the Connecticut General Assembly in 1739. In 1746 he served as an ensign in a planned military expedition to Canada that was called off before it sailed, leaving his company to spend the summer garrisoned near Albany instead. Isaac moved to Bolton, Connecticut, in 1743, buying a farm with a mansion house, and was active in founding its church, signing a 1750 petition to have Bolton recognized as its own ecclesiastical parish. In his October 1778 will, Isaac left his remaining home and land to his son Nathan, who had cared for him in his old age, noting he had already provided for his other children.
