Life story

A Hartford Miller

John Crow settled in East Hartford, Connecticut, where in 1639 he partnered with William Goodwin to build the first saw and grist mill on the falls at Burnside — a business later owned by the Pitkin family. One of Connecticut's largest landowners in his day, John moved to Hadley, Massachusetts, by 1659 before returning to Hartford around 1676; during King Philip's War that year, Hartford's citizens were ordered to garrison at his property near South Meadow Road. He joined Hartford's Second Church in 1678 and died January 16, 1686.
