Life story
A Braintree Draper's Family
John Lyngwood worked as a woolen draper in Braintree, Essex, England, born around 1525, and purchased a house and garden there in 1579. In his April 1597 will, written shortly before his death, John divided a substantial estate among his wife Jane, his own children, his stepchildren, and his son-in-law John Loomis — father of the Joseph Loomis who would go on to emigrate to Massachusetts and found the American Loomis family — along with small bequests to his grandchildren, including three pounds to his granddaughter Mary Loomis. John died in Braintree in the spring of 1597.
