Elizabeth Weber

1820s–1840s

Born in 1824 in Landstuhl, Bavaria, to Peter Weber and Mariaentae Altherr. Came to Dearborn County, Indiana, about 1843 and married John Hahn.

1850s–1860s

Raised eight children on the family farm in Kelso Township, Dearborn County.

1870s–1880s

Moved with the family to Marion Township, Decatur County. Widowed in 1885.

1890s–1900s

Lost her daughter Barbara in 1895. Disabled from about 1889, she lived in Greensburg, where large family reunions marked her birthdays in 1903 and 1905. Died there on 2 February 1907.

From Landstuhl to Greensburg

Elizabeth Weber was born in 1824 (July 15 or in September, by different records) in Landstuhl, Bavaria, the daughter of Peter Weber and Mariaentae Altherr. She came to Dearborn County, Indiana, about 1843, and there she married John Hahn, a young Bavarian farmer. They farmed in Kelso Township and then, from the late 1860s, in Marion Township, Decatur County, south of Greensburg, where John built up a farm of about two hundred acres.

Elizabeth had eight children: Lana, Adam, John, Kate, Barbara (Ben's 2x-great-grandmother), Joseph, Mary Elizabeth, and Josephine. John died of tuberculosis in 1885, and ten years later her daughter Barbara, the wife of George Amrhein, died of typhoid, leaving six children.

From about 1889 Elizabeth was disabled, and she spent her last years in Greensburg. Her family gathered around her: in February 1900 a granddaughter came from Cincinnati to visit, and on September 4, 1903, her children's and grandchildren's families held a big reunion for her eightieth birthday. By 1905 she was bedridden, but that September the family came together again for her birthday. Elizabeth died at her home on South East Street in Greensburg at 2:15 in the afternoon on February 2, 1907, and was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery.
