Life story
A Wiltshire Widow's Bequests
Alice Lambert married in Sherborne, Dorset, England, in October 1575, and lived her later years in Semley, Wiltshire. In her March 1621 will she distributed her household goods in careful detail among her children and grandchildren — brass pans, pewter dishes, linens, and a silver spoon — naming her son Walter Hayne executor and leaving him the residue of her estate along with half a year's profit from her tenement. Alice died around 1623; her estate was inventoried at just under twenty-four pounds, an ordinary rural household's worth of furniture, bedding, and cookware.
