Life story

A Young Father's Will

Edward Howe was baptized August 31, 1561, in Boxted, Essex, England, and inherited his father's copyhold properties there in the late 1580s, including a tenement called Blackes and additional parcels of meadow and pasture. He married in 1585 and, dying suddenly in his early thirties, wrote his will on February 22, 1592, leaving his wife Ann the family's copyhold lands for her lifetime, to pass afterward to their young son Edward, along with smaller bequests to his daughter Mary and his brother Richard. He was buried in Boxted that same month.
