Life story
A Windsor Widow's Household
Sarah Cook married Richard Sexton on April 16, 1647, and settled with him in Windsor, Connecticut, in a home he had purchased from the Filley family. When Richard died without a will in 1662, Sarah was appointed to administer his estate, and she continued running the household — with four people living under her roof by 1670 — until her own death, also without a will, on June 13, 1674. Her property was inventoried that July: a dwelling house and several small parcels of land, livestock including two cows and a heifer, and a modest collection of household goods, together valued at just over fifty pounds.
