Life story

A Windsor Tradesman

Richard Sexton was born in 1621 in England and sailed for New England in July 1635 aboard the ship Blessing, settling in Windsor, Connecticut, where he bought and traded several homes and parcels of land through the 1640s, '50s, and '60s, including a homestead by the Tunxis River where he likely died. Richard was frequently involved in small debt and damage suits before the Hartford courts, both as plaintiff and in trade with neighbors like Henry Wolcott. He died in Windsor on May 3, 1662; his estate, including a house, orchard, livestock, and outstanding debts owed to him, was appraised at nearly 108 pounds.
