Life story
A Return Voyage for Marriage
Jonathan Gillet sailed from England with his brother Nathan in March 1630 aboard the Mary and John, arriving that May at Natasket, Massachusetts, and settled in Dorchester, where he was made a freeman in 1635 and granted several parcels of land. He returned briefly to England around 1634 to marry Mary Dolbiar before coming back to New England and moving with his brother to Windsor, Connecticut, around 1636. Jonathan paid to secure his family a seat in the Windsor church's prominent long seats and donated toward relief for those who had suffered in fighting near Simsbury and Springfield. He wrote his will in August 1677 and died in Windsor that same month.
