Life story

A Windsor Inheritance

Jonathan Gillett was born around December 1634 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, son of the elder Jonathan Gillett, and settled in Windsor, Connecticut, where he was admitted to the church in 1662. In his August 1694 will, Jonathan carefully divided his considerable property in Windsor and Simsbury between his son William, his son Jonathan, and his wife Miriam, providing that Miriam would hold much of the estate until her death or remarriage while smaller cash bequests went to his daughters Mary, Hannah, and Miriam. Jonathan died in Windsor in February 1698; his estate was appraised at over 360 pounds.
