Life story
A Chronicler of Weddings and Weather
Sebastian Glab was born in 1686 in Schimborn, in the Electorate of Mainz (now Germany), and worked as a schoolteacher, marrying there in 1708. Between 1708 and 1732 Sebastian kept a journal recording 185 weddings at which he played music, along with notable weather — he recorded 1709 as the coldest winter he could remember, and 1726 as a year when snow lingered until nearly the end of spring, damaging that year's harvest.
