Life story
A War of 1812 Prisoner
Noah Force was born around 1768 in Sussex County, New Jersey, and served in the local militia there before emigrating to Upper Canada, where he settled in Louth Township on land owned by his father-in-law, Henry Beamer. During the War of 1812, Noah served in Jacob Ball's 1st Regiment of the Lincoln Militia and was imprisoned at York Gaol for two months in early 1814, possibly in connection with the burning of Newark on December 10, 1813; he later claimed compensation for livestock lost during the war. Noah moved to Burford Township, Brant County, around 1824, where he lived until his death before 1851. The community of Woodbury, Ontario, was originally known as Force's Corner after his family.
