Life story

An Acquackanonk Innkeeper

Manning Force was born around 1730 in Morristown, New Jersey, son of Obadiah Force, and married in 1753 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hanover. He kept an inn in Acquackanonk, Essex County, New Jersey, and served Newark Township as overseer of highways through the early 1770s, constable in 1778, and on an eleven-member committee overseeing poor relief in 1788. Manning died April 8, 1789, in Acquackanonk.
