Life story
The Ferryman's Wife
Mary Hoyt married Luke Hill in Windsor, Connecticut, in May 1651. In April 1667 she joined her husband at a town meeting to complain about his inadequate pay for running the Rivulet Ferry, her plea helping persuade the town to raise his wages. In 1687 her son-in-law's will provided that their granddaughter Lydia, in delicate health, should live with Mary and Luke until she came of age.
