Life story
A Mother's Final Provisions
Mary Durkin was born around 1804–1830 in County Mayo, Ireland, and married Patrick Hughes on April 22, 1841, in Balla Parish, later settling with him in Syracuse, New York. Unable to read or write, she outlived her husband and in 1890 purchased the family plot at St. Agnes Cemetery. In her February 1902 will, she divided her house evenly among her children and left the remainder of her estate to her daughter Mary Rafferty, naming her grandson William F. Rafferty as executor. Mary died in March 1902; her funeral was held at St. Mary's Church in Syracuse.
