Life story
A Woman of Strong Faith
Lucretia W. King was born on December 14, 1812, in Utica, New York, and married twice: first in Utica, to Milo Loomis, and again in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 17, 1836, apparently to a Mr. Doan, since her obituary is headed “Death of Mrs. Doan.” Raised by Presbyterian parents, she joined the Baptist church as a young woman and later became an active member of the Christian Church, worshiping on Sycamore Street in Cincinnati before helping lead the Christian Church congregation in Vinton, Iowa, after the family moved there in 1866. She was remembered as having “a strong mind, more than ordinary intelligence, earnest purpose, and strong faith.”
