Life story
A Yorkshire Weaving Family
Newton Greenwood was born around 1845–1846 in Wadsworth, Yorkshire, England, and worked his way up in the local worsted-weaving trade to foreman. He emigrated to the United States in 1896, sailing from Liverpool aboard the S.S. Pennland to Philadelphia, and continued as a loom fixer in the Chester, Pennsylvania mills until his retirement around 1920, finally completing his naturalization that same year. He died at home in Chester on October 6, 1923.
