Life story
An Amsterdam Printer
Barent Otsen established himself as a printer and bookseller in Amsterdam in 1612, publishing a popular riddle book, T Groote Raedtsel Bock, in 1614 and formally joining the city's Booksellers' Guild in 1619. In 1626 he printed De Gulde Harpe, a collection of songs composed by the poet Karel van Mander. Barent worked from a printing house on the Breestraat near the Ox Market, south of Amsterdam's Old Regulator's Gate.
