Life story

From Warsaw to Brooklyn

Esther “Stella” Kutner was born around 1902 in Warsaw, Poland, the daughter of Lazer Kutner and Golde Ostaszewer, and emigrated to the United States as a child, around 1907–1910, speaking mainly Yiddish. She grew up in Brooklyn and later owned a flower shop, Etcetera Floral, on Coney Island Avenue. She married Jacob “Jack” Rose in Brooklyn on August 19, 1924, and raised their children Helen and Ted there, keeping a summer home in South Fallsburg, New York, in her later years.
