Life story

A Synod Member's Debts

Johann Gerhard Berens was baptized in May 1685 in Taben, in the Electorate of Trier (now Germany), and served as a member of the local church synod, marrying twice, in 1712 and 1744. In the early 1750s he borrowed money from the church, repaying it with annual interest, and from 1755 he drew a small pension from the parish. He died November 27, 1765.
