A Mother in Bolszowce

Heny Malka Klinger (also written Henie Malke) was the daughter of Hersch Klinger and a mother named Sima. She married Beril Weber and lived in Bolszowce (today Bilshivtsi, Ukraine), in Austrian Galicia. Her children were registered under her own surname, Klinger, and her eldest known son, Harry, carried her father's name, Hersch. In America her name came down as Anna Clinger.

The town's records follow her family through the births of her children. Hersch (Harry) was born on November 30, 1883, at house number 134. Marcus followed in March 1885 and died of bronchitis in January 1887, and Sarah was born that November. Ire arrived in July 1890; Simon in January 1893, by which time the family was at house number 154; and Simche Dawid in April 1900. There were also sons named Isaak and Isadore.

Several of her children made new lives in New York. Isaak was there by 1912, when Harry arrived to join him, and Sarah was married in Manhattan in 1915. In December 1915 her son Simon died in Bolszowce at twenty-two. Whether Heny was still living then, and when she died, is not known.
